High School Heisman winner earns key to city

High school sports section The Meadows senior Brett Leibowitz, who beat out roughly 33,000 other applicants last month for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, will receive the key to Las Vegas Wednesday morning in a ceremony downtown at City Hall. The national award, which was presented in New York as part of college football’s Heisman trophy weekend, acknowledges the teenager who excels in athletes, academics and community service. Cruz leaving Rebels soccer team for Major League Soccer

UNLV sophomore striker Danny Cruz is leaving school for Major League Soccer. Cruz signed an MLS contract today in coach Mario Sanchez’s office. He leaves Thursday for a combine in Florida and will be available to be picked in the MLS Super Draft on Jan. 15 in St. Louis. “It’s true,” Sanchez said. “All afternoon he was in my office signing the paperwork.
