Paris Hilton debuts new film in Las Vegas

Repo the Genetic Opera

  • Synopsis: “A worldwide epidemic allows a biotech company to manage an organ-financing program that allows it to foreclose on and harvest human organs.”
  • Rating: R (strong bloody violence and gore, language, some drug and sexual content)
  • Playing at: Brenden Theaters in the Palms
  • Running time: 97 Minutes
  • Web site: www.repo-opera.com

Paris Hilton may have launched her acting career with a scandalous sex tape but her latest foray into the world of legitimate film made its Las Vegas debut Thursday at Planet Hollywood.

A handful of other “Repo the Genetic Opera” stars – Alexa Vega (“Spy Kids”), Kevin Ogilvie (a.k.a. Nivek Ogre from the industrial rock band Skinny Puppy), and Bill Moseley (“Halloween,” “Grindhouse”) – joined Hilton on the red carpet.

Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden was also there to support his girlfriend of nearly a year.

A special post-screening soirée was held across the casino floor at Privé nightclub, where the stars mixed and mingled after the show.

“Repo” opens Friday at eight theaters nationwide, including Brenden Theatres at the Palms.

In addition to its limited theatrical release, a post-premiere promotional “Repo road tour” will begin Nov. 10. During the tour, director Darren Lynn Boysman (“Saw”) will visit seven cities in seven days, starting Monday with Portland, Ore.

New York and L.A. aren’t on the docket, but the tour will visit Seattle, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Orlando and Chicago before it’s through.

“Repo” was born in 2002 as a 10-minute skit on the L.A. club circuit before being rehatched on the East Coast as an off-Broadway theatrical production.

Its latest incarnation, “Repo” the full-length feature, emerges to stand in “Rocky Horror Picture Show’s” considerable shadow.

Hilton has a supporting role in the film and plays a so-called “scalpel slut” whose face eventually falls off after repeated alterations.

The film is a gory, graphic-novel-meets-exaggerated-musical that’s not for the faint of heart or discerning film aficionado.

  1. Yawn

  2. Funny, I think you've miscategorized this article.

You've mistakenly placed it in the "Culture" section.

Between this and the constant stories about that "magician" guy and the ex-playmate, where, exactly, is the Sun headed? (And is it too late to turn back?)

  3. Thebs,

Don't expect to see a story similar to this in the print edition of the Las Vegas Sun. While the printed Sun is committed to great enterprise journalism -- including the stories you read here each day on lasvegassun.com -- we are also covering stories that you'll see only online. Items you'll find online that you won't see in the printed Sun include multimedia, breaking news, extensive sports coverage and entertainment stories.

You'll find entertainment stories similar to this one in major newspapers across the country, often on Page 2 or Page 3 of the A section. We live in Las Vegas, and we'd be silly to ignore stories happening right here in the entertainment capital of the world.

This kind of entertainment news isn't for everybody, and it's a small part of what's available on our site. Readers interested in this material can find updates in the "Culture and Entertainment" blog, but I'm also sure some readers will choose to ignore this blog. And that's fine -- no one is interested in everything.

You've probably noticed our increased online coverage in recent months, including everything from video to breaking news and other Web-only stories. In a city like Las Vegas, entertainment news can't be left out of that mix.

  4. Thebs has a point though Tim, turning the Sun into TMZ wouldn't be a wise move.

  5. Just noticed.. Why the hell does the magician have his own featured section on the main page of the Sun? That's just pure cheese.

  6. Dear Tim,

I am new to this site and I appreciate all that is printed, I find Las Vegas very interesting when you come from Boston, so I do feel it is important that the above readers need to know that this site is not just for Las Vegas residents and that people from around the world go to this site to see what is going on in Las Vegas, people that are planning a trip to Las Vegas wether it is business or pleasure like to know what is going to be there for entertainment especially, so it is important that the residents realize that we from around the world get to see the happenings in Vegas, where the residents get the local paper.

    Kindly,
    Janice Power

  7. I am from Miami, I read lasvegassun.com everyday as I do with latimes.com and others from states that I visit every year, I read about 4 more from different cities in Florida, when I go, I know things that you can't tell am from another state, after work I have 4 hours available to read and anything may be interesting.

  8. I hope its as good as her last film-The Hottie and the Nottie. That was a Paris Hilton cinematic masterpiece.

  9. some kind soul needs to take Paris aside and tell her she has no talent, I think aside from E televsion, you are the only ones to even report about this piece of trash. Hollywood has been in a steady decline for over a decade now (where are the future Speilbergs, Scorceses, Lucases et al?) i don't recall ever seeing any of these celebrities Las Vegas is designed to cater to, thank God for the indian casinos....ps isn't that so sweet of Criss Angel to try to help his own career and that of sleazoid Holly Madisons going nowhere fast career with the story about their strange relationship, life reflects reality tv!!!!
