CARSON CITY -- The race for Carson City mayor will have a religious touch in the general election.
Ken Haskins, nicknamed the “Rockin’ Reverend,” came in second in a five-man race in the primary election and will face attorney Bob Crowell in the general election.
Haskins, a non-denominational minister, often delivers the opening prayer at sessions of the state Senate or the Assembly when the Legislature is in session.
“This is quite a thrill,” Haskins said. “I’m going after him and give it my best shot.”
Crowell collected 3,947 votes to 1,806 for Haskins, 1,339 for Sean Lehmann, 560 for Pete Hansell and 229 for Steve McClung.
Haskins got the nickname while he was host of a local radio show in which he played records from the 1950s.
Crowell has been a member of the Carson City School Board and was the acknowledged front-runner during the primary election campaign.
The winner will succeed Mayor Marv Teixeira, who did not run for re-election.
