Berkley’s calendar: Party at Clinton’s house, strategy session with Obama

WASHINGTON - As a former supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton for president, Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley found herself on the receiving end of some enticing invitations this week.

This afternoon, Sen. Barack Obama invited the women lawmakers in the House who had backed Clinton to a meeting at Democratic Party headquarters. Obama wanted to hear their thoughts as he tries to win over former Clinton voters in their states — some of whom had been so disheartened by her loss after the hard-fought campaign they vowed not to support the Illinois senator.

Berkley, who threw her support to Obama once he reached out to her after becoming the presumed nominee, discussed with him strategies for coordinating campaigns in Nevada.

The night before, Berkley attended a reception Clinton threw for former superdelegates at the Clinton family home in Washington. Members of the House and Senate attended the cocktail party, part of Clinton's return to Washington this week.

Berkley brought along her sister, in town for a visit. The congresswoman said it was all social - "not a speech was given, not a serious policy issued was discussed."
