Budget cut deal near

Republicans and Democrats are close to a deal to balance the budget, said Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio, R-Reno after briefing Gov. Jim Gibbons and his staff.

Raggio and Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley spent the day hammering out an agreement lawmakers on both sides of the aisle could support.

The governor is to give a live television address at 6:30, followed by remarks from Buckley.

Raggio said even if a deal is worked out, there would still need to be a special session to take care of mechanics of putting the agreement into place.
