WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid opened the Senate today saying he will “continue doing everything possible” to move the bailout bill forward in coming days.
Congress is quiet today for the Jewish holiday, but Reid and his Republican counterpart, Sen. Mitch McConnell, the minority leader from Kentucky, both have said they are working to find a new path for the failed bill.
The dilemma they face in finding the 12 House votes needed for passage is an uneasy quest for the center. If they add Democratic-backed provisions to attract Rep. Shelley Berkley and others who voted no, they risk losing Republicans in both chambers. Same goes the other way.
Yet if the markets continue to nosedive as they did Monday after the House killed the bill in a stunning defeat, no-voting lawmakers may be asking for a do-over.
“We are all committed to keeping the progress of the rescue package moving forward,” Reid said. “In the coming days, I will continue doing everything possible to see this dire and avoidable financial crisis through to the best possible outcome.”
Hey, the bill failed and civilization did not end. Reid is trying to line his pockets and those of his friends. Time for Harry to shut up and sit down.

Porter is the only one to vote YES on the first bill. Porter will do anything Bush tells him to do. I'm sure if Bush tells Porter to sponsor or vote for a new bill to allow Wall Street Fat Cats to reap more of our money, he'll go along with it.
It's time for change. Vote the bum out!
