If so-called experts are right, Reno's McQueen High will emerge victorious Saturday against Palo Verde in the 4A state football championship game.

Recruiting Web site Rivals.com ranks McQueen as the nation's No. 75 best team in its Rivals High 100, which was released Monday. The rankings are compiled with the help of the Rivals.com network of high school site publishers and recruiting analysts.

Palo Verde didn't make the list, well, at least not this week.

McQueen, which lost to Bishop Gorman in last year's title game, has only given up 88 points this year in tearing through its schedule undefeated.

But the Lancers haven't faced a team with Palo Verde's speed or talent. The Panthers are also undefeated, and with USC-bound Torin Harris and hard-to-tackle Chaz Thomas leading the way, look for the folks at Rivals to make some changes.

Discussion: 1 comment so far...

  1. Palo's gimmick offense wouldn't work in most states with seriously superior football team that play 5A ball. They've dominated Southern Nevada because this is terrible region for sports, being the best down here is like being the tallest kid in third grade.

The trip up to Reno will be interesting. Will this offense work one more time? I predict Palo will be beat by about 20.

Basic quarterback Faiman named Home News Player of the Year

Robby Faiman's beginnings as Basic's quarterback could not have been more humbling. As a skinny, 5-foot-4 ninth-grader, barely tall enough to see over the offensive line, Faiman helmed Basic's 2004 freshman team to a 0-10 season.
