Derby gets boost from Democrats in Heller contest
Fri, Aug 1, 2008 (8:54 a.m.)
The fundraising committee for House Democrats has added Nevada Democrat Jill Derby to its "red-to-blue" program of top-tier races in GOP districts.
That means Derby will likely be able to count on financial and strategic support from the national Democratic Party in her rematch against incumbent Republican Dean Heller in Nevada's rural 2nd Congressional District.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee made the announcement Friday in Washington.
Democrat Dina Titus' challenge of incumbent Republican Jon Porter in Nevada's 3rd Congressional District was already in the "red-to-blue" program.
The Porter-Titus race as seen as one of the most competitive in the country.
Derby's challenge is considered more of a long shot.
