FacebookMinister gets into the finals for Carson City mayor

CARSON CITY – The race for Carson City mayor will have a religious touch in the general election.
Ken Haskins, nicknamed the “Rockin’ Reverend,” came in second in the five-candidate primary race and will face attorney Bob Crowell in the general election.
“This is quite a thrill,” says Haskins. “I’m going after him and give it my best shot.”
Crowell collected 3,947 votes to 1,806 for Haskins; 1,339 for Sean Lehmann, 560 for Pete Hansell and 229 for Steve McClung.
Haskins, a non-denominational minister who often delivers the opening prayer at sessions of the state Senate or the Assembly, got his nickname while he was host of a local radio show in which he played records from the 1950s.
Crowell has been a member of the Carson City School Board.
The winner will succeed Mayor Marv Teixeira who did not run for re-election.
