LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Iraq has been biggest drain on our economy
Sat, Oct 11, 2008 (2:05 a.m.)
The truth of why the U.S. economy has tanked:
• Is it because of the housing crisis?
• Is it because of greed on Wall Street and certain individuals?
• Is it our foolish borrowing on credit cards?
All of these occurrences play a part in this disaster, but the true cause is the war in Iraq.
If the government would have kept our national debt at a manageable level, as when President Clinton left office, catastrophes such as Katrina could have received the proper financial assistance and the screw-up would have been averted.
The astronomical war cost to date and $10 billion a month with no end in sight is wherein the problem lies.
As far as the housing crisis, the American dream is to own your own home. The mortgage companies may have gotten a little greedier than normal but let’s face it, so have most of us.
Our government, in its stupidity, invaded a country that was no threat to the United States. It has actually helped Osama bin Laden and his thugs fulfill their dreams.
We must stop throwing what’s left of our good money away. We must suck it up and strategically set a new course of action to save our economy.

The Iraq war sends 100 billion overseas every year. Our refusal to produce energy at home sends 700 billion overseas a year. I think we found the culprit in our economic mess and it is the American public for not firing every Democrat that has refused to use American Resources for American jobs here at home. Drill Baby Drill.
$700 bill for foreign energy - $700 billion to bailout wallstreet,
or $100 billion to fight terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan, or Pakistan's tribal areas.
Let move on that "all of the above" domestic energy security, produced by american worker.
Would you like to spend
-90 billion
-80 billion
-50 billion
-25 billion
- 0 billion on fighting terrorists in Afghanistan, or Pakistan's tribal areas.
Obama think that fighting terrorists is about spending money not about protecting us.
Republicans have done enough to drive this country into the ground...it's time for a democrat to take office. Things won't get fixed overnight but the Republicans will continue wasting our money on wars to secure oil rather than putting our own citizens to work with renewable energy and "green jobs". The Republicans and their agendas are killing our economy. We don't need a "maverick" running this country...that isn't what we need to fix things! Isn't there any kind of psychiatric test requirement to become a president? Especially for ex POWs?
